Same here, glad I’m not an an airplane today. We had some good bumps flying out of Seattle then it was fine the rest of the way, 50 min flight.

I wish we had gotten more of the rain, though. If it’s cool and windy it might as well rain and help the fire danger level. Dry and windy isn’t a good combo.

Not too bad in Southern NM today. Currently 96 degrees and (to the consternation of folks with evaporative cooling at home) 21% humidity. We’ve entered out monsoon season, so the humidity usually keeps afternoon temperatures in check (21% is humid for us). Our hotter -than-balls season here runs more from late May through mid/late June.

I’m in Wichita for work this week, I have a screenshot on my phone from yesterday when the air temp was 100 and the heat index at 113.
The ~95 when I get home tomorrow is going to be a nice treat after this.

It’s 730 and 89 degrees now. Feels like 101 and the high was 93, so I assume a higher index.

That is true. We went to Vegas a couple of years ago and I was surprised how much I could tolerate the heat. We walked around for 3 hours in 108 degree heat and were fine. We did drink a ton of water, that helps.

That’s pretty close to our sidewalk temps come mid August after a week of 115+ temps with a 120+ day thrown in for good measure . Had to shut the airport down a few years ago after the tarmac started melting tires.

Sky Harbor, right?
![]() 07/19/2019 at 11:41 |

Yep. And it’s surrounded by nothing on the banks of a dried out river. That’s where they take all our official temps at. It gets even hotter in downtown Phoenix when you’re surrounded by glass building, cars and asphalt.

You’d think, but there’s an ASU campus downtown and those girls are going for that Presidential orange hue.
